Demolition And The Effect It Has On Our Lives

This article has been viewed 90 times.

Try to picture the first time that any one pushed the button to detonate an explosive stick of dynamite, it doesn’t really matter if it was used as a demolition tool to bring down a building. It must have been terribly exhilarating.

To be sure, most people have seen buildings being demolished. We have seen it in videos or maybe in person, on the site that it was done. However, excitement aside, it can be argued that seeing destruction on such a grand scale always leaves one with a tangible sense of loss. As human beings, we don’t deal too well with loss, and even less well with change.

Of course it is unthinkable that everything should always stay the same. As they say, change is the only constant. That doesn’t mean that we always have to stand by with stoic faces and grim expressions as we see a well-known, much loved, structure come tumbling down in clouds of dust and debris.

It would be OK to wipe away a tear of regret and nostalgia for not being able to enter into the, now non-existent, basilisk one last time. It would be acceptable to walk away and feel cheated out of a lost chance.

Indeed the lifespan of a building is exactly tuned to the time set for its demolition and this can be seen as an analogy of human life. Structures become unstable and so they have to be taken down. All things end and so must a building. The process of demolishing a building is very involved and has become extremely scientific.

This is necessary for the simple fact that a lot of structures that have to be brought down are situated close to and even in between other buildings that must not be affected by either the blast of the explosives or the mayhem of the collapse.

When we inspect actual recorded imagery of these events, we can clearly see that the methods employed with regard to placing charges in specific locations and the timing of the detonations has the desired effect. The structure collapses in upon itself and all that remains is a tangible dust-cloud.

Bringing down structures with the aid of scientifically calculated destruction has become an integral part of our base infrastructure. It is fundamental to our progress and will be a measure of our success in the future. As we start to use more and more of the natural resources we have to erect newer enclaves, it is only logical to assume that materials from demolished buildings should be scavenged and re-utilized.
